Lakes Entrance is a large town nestled in a small flat piece of land between a small mountain range, Lake King and the ocean. Its name is derived from its position at the entrance of a series of interconnected lakes and is located in the eastern Gippsland area being perhaps Victoria's most popular seaside resort. Besides being a popular holiday destination, the town is a thriving fishing port with a large marina against the narrow stretch of water that feeds from Lake King. In town - caravan parks and motels galore on the Princes Highway; on the eastern side of town on the highway is the Family Entertainment Centre (rides, waterslides, funpark); neat pedestrian bridge crossing Cunningham Arm to the ocean; various lookouts to overseas the series of lakes to the east of the town.
