Moe

Moe was once a small town, based on the rich flats in the LaTrobe Valley in Victoria's Gippsland but grew once brown coal deposits were mined in the area. The coal mined at Moe and Yallourn feeds the power station at Morwell, one of the main electricity sources for Victoria. The city of Moe is strange with the town centre being on one side of the railway with the primary residential areas all on the other side. The roundabout connecting the town centre with the residential areas is also unique as it resides wholly on the railway bridge, with varying slope and 5 exits. The old town of Yallourn existed til the 1970's when it was "dismantled" and the houses and services shifted due to coal excavations occuring under the town (similar to Leigh Creek in SA). Moe is also the home of Gippsland Heritage Park, a historic pioneer village.
