Pyrenees Highway 

The Pyrenees Highway begins at the large town of Ararat, located at the eastern end of the Grampians. It heads in an easterly direction winding its way through rich dairying countryside before passing through the Pyrenee Range to reach the town of Avoca. Continuing east, the highway enters the Goldfields region, passing through the large historic towns of Maryborough and Castlemaine before reaching the Calder Highway at the small town of Elphinestone.

Western Highway (Ararat)

Finish: Calder Highway (Elphinstone)
Length: 149km
Road Standard: All bitumen.
Road Quality: Generally good - occasional overtaking lanes. Road can be windy between Maryborough and Elphinestone.
Speed Limit (outside built up areas): 100km/hr
