Sturt Highway (VIC)

The Victorian section of the Sturt Highway essentially makes up a part of the major Adelaide-Sydney corridor. However, from the state's perspective, the Sturt Highway allows the Victorian regional city of Mildura to be linked with South Australia and New South Wales (if justification is needed). Starting at the SA/VIC border just east of Renmark, the Sturt Highway heads due east across very flat, countryside ranging from dry, saltbush surroundings to lush, green, irrigated fields. Eventually the highway enters the Sunraysia region, joins with the Calder Highway for approximately 4km, then passes through the large centre of Mildura before reaching the Murray River and VIC/NSW border.

State: Victoria
Name Origin:
The highway is named after Charles Sturt, the explorer and navigator who was the first to travel the Murray-Darling-Murrumbidgee River network from NSW to the Murray Mouth in South Australia. The highway's path follows a significant length of the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers thus the name "Sturt Highway".
