Winchelsea is a small town on the Princes Hwy between Geelong and Colac, where it crosses the Barwon River. The town originated as a watering hole for travellers on the original Colac-Melbourne road, but is now a centre for the local dairying industry. The town itself lacks a substantial shopping precinct due to its close proximity with Geelong and Colac however has several historic buildings still standing, dating back to the mid 1850's with the Barwon River bridge (constructed in 1867) still in use and made entirely of stone cobbles.
