Australia's commitment to Vietnam began on the 3 August 1962 with 30 Military Advisors being sent to assist in training South Vietnamese Forces.
Our commitment ended in June 1973 with the withdrawal of the last Australian Troops. The Vietnam War was the longest war Australia was ever involved in.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your service and sacrifires in South Vietnam. I know the people of Phuoc Tuy/Ba Ria Province never forget you guys. My late grandfather spoke very fondly of you guys: Aussie and Kiwi servicemen. If one of your many missions was to win the heart and mind of people in Phuoc Tuy Province: You did.

Forever Grateful & Semper Fidelis, Captain T. T. Pham U.S. Marines

SOLDIER

I WAS THAT WHICH OTHERS DID NOT WANT TO BE.
I WENT WHERE OTHERS FEARED TO GO,
AND DID WHAT OTHERS FAILED TO DO.
I ASKED NOTHING FROM THOSE WHO GAVE NOTHING,
AND RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THE THOUGHT OF
ETERNAL LONELINESS ...SHOULD I FAIL.
I HAVE SEEN THE FACE OF TERROR;
FELT THE STINGING COLD Of FEAR;
AND ENJOYED THE SWEET TASTE Of A MOMENTS LOVE.
I HAVE CRIED, PAINED, AND HOPED ...BUT MOST OF ALL,
I HAVE LIVED TIMES OTHERS WOULD SAY WERE BEST FORGOTTEN.
AT LEAST SOMEDAY I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THAT I WAS PROUD OF

WHAT I WAS...

A SOLDIER

    Some of my interests, not that you're interested

    Images of ME

    Vietnam, Unit 2AOD at 1ALSG 1968 till 1969. I read everything I can about the subject. I'm also a Pension Officer here in Sunraysia and a foundation Member of the Support Network ,also the past President of the Respite feasibility committee. In 1997 I was elected to the RSL (Mildura) Committee (Now Retired). I am also the President of the Sunraysia Regional Veterans Centre

    Music, It's just gotta be Country & Western. My main man is Jerry Jeff Walker followed very closely by Waylon Jennings and of course The Highwaymen......... Kevin Johnston........ One of the most under-rated singers in Aussie, along with Eric Bogle...... who isn't really C&W but is brilliant just the same
