A Stroll to Dat Do
Suppllied by Morphine of B Coy 3RAR 1971
We were at the Horseshoe for our two month stint, doing our Ops from the security of there. At the time the Horseshoe on the OCs Orders was 'dry', except for designated occasions.
After dusk, one eventful day, certain members of one Platoon, dressed in patrol gear and full compliment of arms and ammo, decided the 'dry' was just too much to take and too far away from the next event...so they decided to wander down to Dat Do...(or as commonly known the Dat Do Dogs) and taste the local beer and whatever else they could get their hands or tongues around.
Well after a few hours of revelry, and after complaints from the Village Chief to the AARVN post (where our 2IC was local LO)....and contact with 1ATF then back to OC at Horseshoe, the group returned to the Horseshoe quite intoxicated.
Returned in"'pissed patrol order" along the road to the Horseshoe through a number of set AARVN ambushes...if it was not for their loud voices in drunken Aussie language, the AARVN ambushes may have been initiated.
So lucky.......all charged....$40 fine, and 14 days Field Punishment.
