Last Non-Severe, Weak or Minor Thunderstorm Activity |
There has been some weak, thunderstorm activity to the surrounding Inverell and Nullamanna, from 3:30pm to 3:30pm. The day has been counted as a "Thunderday". |
Last Severe Thunderstorm Activity Report
A squall line of thunderstorms approached the Northern Tablelands and North-West Slopes weather districts from the West, from daybreak to late morning with succesive thunderstorms hitting the area approx. every 45 minutes, with a direct hit to the property by one thunderstorm from 9:00am to 9:30am. The thunderstorms produced very strong and close CG lightning and there have been observed reports of very small sized hail, up to 4.0 mm, whilst the core of the thunderstorm travelled across the property. The thunderstorms are only classified as severe because of some flash flooding in low-lying areas and across creek floodways / road causeways. The day has been counted as a "Thunderday". Thunderstorm's Duration : Total : 6:00am A.E.D.T to 11:30am A.E.D.T = 5 hours, 30 minutes. Lightning : Each successive thunderstorm was very active with thunder, with *CC and *CG lightning observed approx. every 1 - 5 minutes. Hail : Very small " ice pellet" sized hail up to 4.0 mm was observed to have fallen on the property. No hail has yet been reported, from any other localities within the Northern Tablelands and the North-West Slopes Weather Forecast Districts. Wind : A maximum thunderstorm windgust of 57.0 km/h (30.7 knts - *Beaufort Wind Scale Force 7 / "near gale") was recorded after the thunderstorms had departed the area. Storm Rainfall : 30.5 mm / 1.20 inches (120.07 *Points) was recorded for the day to 6:00pm A.E.D.T . Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Alert (STA) issued by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology : Possibly. This is un-confirmed, as I was not advised of any warnings by A.S.W.A automated SMS messages or notified of any warnings via radio broadcasts. Storm Damage : There was some localised flash flooding in the immediate and surrounding locality area's. No major wind damage to any trees. No structual damage to any property buildings. No storm damage to any fence lines. No physical harm to any stock. Thunderstorm Day's for 2009 : 18, 2 of them were severe. Thunderstorm Day's for 2008 : 43, 3 of them were severe. Thunderstorm Day's for 2007 : 63, 4 of them were severe. Thunderstorm Day's for 2006 : 59, 5 of them were severe. Thunderstorm Day's for 2005 : 48, 7 of them were severe. The daily meteorological observations and other meteorological related data contained within this webpage, have been sourced from my own amateur meteorological observation equipment and my personal observational experience.
The meteorological equiptment used to monitor the weather conditions and record the meteorological data includes, a "Stevenson Screen", a Wind Anenometer and a Nylex 1000 Raingauge.
Click on an image to see a larger, more detailed version
The "Stevenson Screen" contains within it,
An Electronic, (Digital) Minimum & Maximum Thermometer/Relative Humidity Combination Sensor. It is used to display the current Ambient Temperature and the current Relative Humidity level. It is also used to monitor and record the daily minimum and maximum Ambient Temperatures and the daily minimum and maximum Relative Humidity levels.
Two Analogue, "Alcohol" type Thermometers. They are used to display the current Ambient "Dry Bulb" and "Wet Bulb" Temperatures.
An "Aneroid" type, Altimeter / Barometer. It is used to display the current Barometric Pressure.
The Wind Anenometer, is connected to a Calibrated, Electronic (Digital) Speedometer and they are both mounted upon a 3.5 metre high mast. The Electronic (Digital) Speedometer is used 24 hours a day, to measure and record, with it's own internal memory, the average and maximum daily windspeeds. A directional windvane, is also mounted upon the same 3.5 metre high mast, directly opposite the Wind Anenometer and it is used to display, but not to record, the current direction of the wind. A cardinal compass point guide, that has been accurately aligned with a magnetic compass, is positioned directly beneath the windvane's central mounting bracket and pivot point and it is used to ascertain the direction the wind is coming from.
The meteorological observations, at the property "Mattakana" are logged daily, at 6:00am and 6:00pm respectively, and the combined, relevant meteorological details are be posted on this webpage, as soon as possible, after the 6:00pm observation readings have been logged.
While all possible endeavours are continually made to ensure the daily meteorological observations and the calibration of the meteorological equiptment is as accurate as possible, the meteorological observations and the equipment data contained within this webpage has not been, or is implied to be, quality controlled by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (or any other meteorological organisation), as the meteorological equiptment used is not of a typical meteorological standard. The author of this website will not vouch for the accuracy of the information posted within this webpage, so therefore any meteorological data contained within this webpage, should be considered as amateur and should not be used for any professional or commercial purposes or applications.

Where's Nullamanna?
______________________________________________
The property that the weather observations are observed at, is called "MATTAKANA" (formerly, "NAHWEENA" ), a 177 acre rural property, located within the small locality of Nullamanna, approx. 22.25km, NNE of Inverell, in the North-West Slopes & Plains Weather District of the Northern New England - North-West Region of New South Wales. The altitude of the property is approximately 640 metres / 2099 feet above sea level and it is located on the North-Western Slopes of the Great Dividing Range, approximately a third of the way along the Ashford Road (Main Road 137) travelling north, to Bukkulla (from Nullamanna, 12km. from Inverell, 35km) and Ashford (from Nullamanna, 36km. from Inverell, 58km).

The property "MATTAKANA", lies approximately 15kms from an Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology's Weather District boundary line dividing the Northern Tablelands Weather District and the North-West Slopes and Plains Weather District. The current weather conditions or forecast information posted by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology for the Northern Tablelands - Inverell (which also includes Glen Innes, Tenterfield and Armidale) should therefore also be considered as applicable for the Nullamanna area, rather than the North-West Slopes and Plains (which includes the towns of Moree, Mungindi, Tamworth and Walgett).
