Hourly Weather Condition Reports and Forecast Information

Kindly supplied by the The Weather Company (Weatherzone.com.au)

The Weather Company derives it's weather information from various sources including, the hourly observational data derived from the

N.S.W Automated Weather Stations of the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology

Automatically every 15 minutes, the Nullamanna Weathercam captures a digital image of the current weather conditions at Nullamanna, but only during daylight hours and if the Nullamanna Weathercam is online and connected to the Internet (usually weekends, public holidays, sick day's and other day's off from work).

Every 10 minutes (600 seconds), a Javascript program will automatically refresh the WHOLE webpage and simultaneously update the Nullamanna Weathercam image to the latest weathercam image captured. Alternately, if you can't wait or if the webpage and/or the weathercam image will not refresh/update properly, please use the refresh button on the toolbar to refresh the page, manually.

In seconds, the whole webpage will be refreshed and the Nullamanna Weathercam should be updated to the latest weathercam image captured.

Last Severe Thunderstorm Activity Report

 Wednesday, 13th January 2010

Late afternoon thunderstorms developed to the East of Inverell and Nullamanna, along the ranges, becoming electrically active from approx. 5:30pm. The thunderstorms combined into a squall line, and slowly travelled on a Westerly heading, with the core of one thunderstorm making a direct hit on the property at approx. 7:30pm. The thunderstorm produced 10mm sized hail and some heavy rainfall, mainly due to the size of the large raindrops / melted hail. Some minor flash flooding occured in roadside table drains and near under-road culvet pipes. The thunderstorm then slowly travelled West, after departing the area at about 10:00pm, with distant lightning flashes still being seen up until 2:00am. Because of the hail, the thunderstorm has been classified as severe. The day has been counted as a "Thunderday".

Thunderstorm's Duration : 7:30pm A.E.D.T to 10:00pm A.E.D.T = 2.5 hours.

Lightning : Strong and close *CG lightning and *CC Lightning was observed approx. every 30 seconds to a minute apart and thunder was heard at approximately the same time intervals.

Hail : 10 mm sized hail was observed to have fallen on the property. No hail has been reported in any other areas, from any other localities within the Northern Tablelands and the North-West Slopes Weather Forecast Districts.

Wind : A maximum thunderstorm windgust of 49.0 km/h (26.4 knts - *Beaufort Wind Scale Force 6 / "strong breeze") was recorded during the 6:00am daily weather observations.

Storm Rainfall : 28.0 mm / 1.10 inches (110.23 *Points) was counted for the 12 hourly rainfall figure to 6:00am, the following morning.

The daily meteorological observations and other meteorological related data contained within this webpage, have been sourced from my own amateur meteorological observation equipment and my personal observational experience.

The meteorological equiptment used to monitor the weather conditions and record the meteorological data includes, a "Stevenson Screen", a Wind Anenometer and a Nylex 1000 Raingauge.

Click on an image to see a larger, more detailed version

The "Stevenson Screen" contains within it,

The Wind Anenometer, is connected to a Calibrated, Electronic (Digital) Speedometer and they are both mounted upon a 3.5 metre high mast. The Electronic (Digital) Speedometer is used 24 hours a day, to measure and record, with it's own internal memory, the average and maximum daily windspeeds. A directional windvane, is also mounted upon the same 3.5 metre high mast, directly opposite the Wind Anenometer and it is used to display, but not to record, the current direction of the wind. A cardinal compass point guide, that has been accurately aligned with a magnetic compass, is positioned directly beneath the windvane's central mounting bracket and pivot point and it is used to ascertain the direction the wind is coming from.

The meteorological observations, at the property "Mattakana" are logged daily, at 6:00am and 6:00pm respectively, and the combined, relevant meteorological details are be posted on this webpage, as soon as possible, after the 6:00pm observation readings have been logged.

While all possible endeavours are continually made to ensure the daily meteorological observations and the calibration of the meteorological equiptment is as accurate as possible, the meteorological observations and the equipment data contained within this webpage has not been, or is implied to be, quality controlled by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology (or any other meteorological organisation), as the meteorological equiptment used is not of a typical meteorological standard. The author of this website will not vouch for the accuracy of the information posted within this webpage, so therefore any meteorological data contained within this webpage, should be considered as amateur and should not be used for any professional or commercial purposes or applications.

Where's Nullamanna?

______________________________________________

The property that the weather observations are observed at, is called "MATTAKANA" (formerly, "NAHWEENA" ), a 177 acre, rural property, located within the small locality of Nullamanna, approx. 22.25km, NNE of Inverell, in the North-West Slopes & Plains Weather District of the Northern New England - North-West Region of New South Wales. The altitude of the property is approximately 640 metres / 2099 feet above sea level and it is located on the North-Western Slopes of the Great Dividing Range, approximately a third of the way along the Ashford Road (Main Road 137) travelling north, to Bukkulla (from Nullamanna, 12km. from Inverell, 35km) and Ashford (from Nullamanna, 36km. from Inverell, 58km).

The property "MATTAKANA", lies approximately 15kms from an Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology's Weather District boundary line dividing the Northern Tablelands Weather District and the North-West Slopes and Plains Weather District. The current weather conditions or forecast information posted by the Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology for the Northern Tablelands - Inverell (which also includes Glen Innes, Tenterfield and Armidale) should therefore also be considered as applicable for the Nullamanna area, rather than the North-West Slopes and Plains (which includes the towns of Moree, Mungindi, Tamworth and Walgett).
