IMZ - Ural Sidecar (Outfit) Australian Launch
at 2:00pm, Saturday, 14th June 2008
Held at the New England Girls School (N.E.G.S) Multi-Purpose Centre, Armidale, New South Wales.
The Inverell Branch President, Phil Kimber received an invitation to the launch of the IMZ- Ural Sidecar (Outfit) Launch at Armidale, and asked if other branch members would like to accompany him, so Daren Mather and I accompanied Phil as he drove to Armidale, due to the persistent cold weather.
We arrived in Armidale, grabbed some lunch in one of the local pub's and then made our way to the N.E.G.S for the launch. On arrival at N.E.G.S, we were greeted with the presence of many motorcyclists and some Ulysses Club members from the Glen Innes Branch. We were then ushered into the "Multi-Purpose Centre" where we were given nametags and had our names marked off the invitation roll. Upon entering the main auditorium, we saw many people gathered around two coloured versions of the "Tourist" model, one in black and one in red, which we all had a very close inspection of and playing on a screen on a wall, were videos of the outfits being put through their reliability trials in various countries, environments and terrains.
Once all the invited people were present, our attention was drawn to the main event, the official launch of the outfits themselves onto the Australian motorcycling public. The launch was officially opened by the Managing Director of Ural Australia, John Taylor, then a short speech from Artyom Kozhin, the First Secretary to the Russian Ambassador to Australia, Alexander Blokin, who gave a short speech on the history of the IMZ-Ural manufacturing company and the motorcycle and sidecar outfits, then we were presented with a short video address from Madina Merzhoyeva of Irbit Motorcycles of America who wished the company well in it's future endeavours, then another short speech from "J.D", the president of the Russian Motorcycle Owners Association. Well respected motor racing commentator, Will Hagan then gave a rather long winded speech and finally, officially unveiled a "woodland' camouflaged version of the sidecar outfit, the "Gear Up 1WD".

The assembled members of the invited public were then invited to continue to inspect the three outfits, purchase various items from the merchandising stand and help themselves to the provided afternoon tea.
After having some of the sumptuous cakes, smoked salmon and red and black caviar encrusted "hors d'ouvres" from the afternoon tea tables, Phil, Daren and I decided to return to Inverell.
Round trip distance : 251kms

St George - Sutherland Branch Easter Long Weekend Inverell Visit
Saturday, 22nd March 2008
13 members of the St George - Sutherland Branch visited the Inverell area over the Easter Long Weekend, and since the Inverell branch couldn't let another branch come to our city without saying g'day and showing off some the local sights, the Branch President Phil Kimber, myself and other branch members Pip McHugh, Daren Mather and Geoff Hetherington all met up with them at the Inverell Motel in Otho St and started the day with a visit to the "Inverell Transport Museum".

Ride Captain - David Curry, and the Branch President - Ian Bosler
After the visit to the Museum, we then rode to the "Dejon Sapphire Centre" to look at some of the area's renowned sapphire's and other gems. We returned to Inverell via Elsmore and stopped off at Lake Inverell, where Phil, Pip and Daren were preparing a sausage sizzle lunch for our guests. After we all were suitably filled with ample food and drink, we parted company with phil and rode the "Inverell Tourist Information Centre" whilst we waited for Pip to nip home, jump on her trike and re-join us. Once we were all together, we then rode to the "Thomas - New England Estate" winery cellar door sales on the Gwydir Highway near Delungra, where we enjoyed some ice-cream cones and cold drinks. By this time, it was getting pretty late in the afternoon and since most of the St George - Sutherland branch members were getting pretty tired after the ride up before and day's activities, plus they had a big ride ahead of them during their return to Sydney the following day, we decided to wish them a safe trip home and said our farewells.
A truly entertaining and memorable day was had by all.

Pip McHugh had also taken some photo's and written a ride report of the days activities. The report is in PDF* format and can be viewed or downloaded by clicking here.

Annual "Toy Run" for the Salvation Army
Saturday, 15th December 2007
On the morning of the Annual "Toy Run" for 2007, ominous low clouds threatened to rain on the proceedings, but thankfully the day remained dry, albiet very warm and very humid. Many bikes, riders and pillions turned out for the run this year, with rumours of up to 150 bikes in attendance at the "Show and Shine", plus numerous bikes coming and going all morning. Inverell Motorcycles and Vince Strang Motorcycles both had a tent display and two bikes from "Scotty's Choppers" were also on display. The Inverell Rotary Club supplied two catering stalls, one selling "Fairy Floss" for the kids and on the other, sausage sandwiches were for sale at a reasonable price, plus tea, coffee and cordial was also made available.

At approx. 11:30am, the guessing game / raffle was drawn and the relevant prizes were given out to the winning ticket holders that were present. Then the peoples choice "show and shine" votes were tallied and the category winners were awarded. The assembled bikes then lined up and proceeded on the street parade down Otho St then onto Byron St, with flags flying and tinsel covered and "teddy bear" adorned bikes. After completing the street parade at the end of Byron St, and assembling in front of Ben Bates Mitsubishi Car Yard, most participants then proceeded on the first leg of the Odin's Warriors MC "Poker Run", with the first destination being the "Thomas - New England Estate Winery and Cellar Door Sales" on the Gwydir Highway, while some other riders, including myself, departed directly to the Graman Pub for lunch and other refreshments.

The majority of the "Poker Run" riders started arriving at the Graman Pub from approx. 12:30pm for the free lunch (again sausage sandwiches) and paid refreshments of their choosing at the pub bar and then the riders revelled in the great atmosphere for approx. 2 hours before setting off on the second leg of the "Poker Run" to Ashford via Wallangra. At this time myself and some other riders decided to return to Inverell. At approx. 4:00pm, on the way home, I observed numerous riders turning up at the Odin's Warriors MC Clubhouse on Byron St from the "Poker Run".
Another very successful "Toy Run" completed for another year...
Total Round trip distance to Graman only: approx. 135 kms

ULYSSES CLUB Inc. A.G.M at Coffs Harbour
Monday, 21st May to Sunday, 27th, May 2007
Because so many branch members went to the Ulysses Club Inc. Annual General Meeting in Coffs Harbour and they have submitted so many of photos to me to post up on this webpage, it was too hard for me to decide on what particular photos to post up. Pip McHugh sent me a link to a webpage with far more photos, and accompanying commentary, than I could ever post here, so I've just placed a link to the webpage, below.

"The Inverell Motorcycle Restorers Rally"
Saturday, 21st April 2007

Some of the motorcycles that assembled at the "Inverell Pioneer Village", prior to commencing first leg of the rally ride to Glen Innes.
...the amount of motorcycles that made the trek from Inverell to Emmaville via Glen Innes was astonishing. There were bikes from just about all eras, all makes and all countries.
