ABOUT THE SOCIETY

FORMATION OF SOCIETY

The Parramatta & District Historical Society Inc. was formed in 1913 and is Australia's second oldest, being preceded by the Royal Australian Historical Society, founded in 1901.

OBJECTS OF THE SOCIETY

The main objects for which the Society is established are:

        *  To encourage the study of history & heritage of both Parramatta district and Australia;

        *  To promote the compilation of authentic records relating to the Parramatta district and
Australia;

        *  To acquire and preserve for the use of the Society any books, manuscripts, newspapers,
            prints, pictures, slides, costumes, relics and all such objects and materials having a
            bearing on Parramatta and Australian history;

        *  To arrange relevant guest speakers, tours, displays & exhibitions related to the history of
            Parramatta & Australia;

        * To publish and circulate journals, periodicals & books related to the history of
            Parramatta & Australia.
