Management of the Late Effects of Polio
In the majority of cases, new symptoms of weakness, fatigue and pain can be improved and/or controlled.

Substantial benefits can be gained by each of the following:

Ensuring that your knowledge and understanding of the late effects of polio is kept up to date.

Acknowledging that the severity of new symptoms may be exacerbated by:
1. physical over-exertion
2. stress
3. exposure to cold temperatures.

Modifying daily routines to:
1. eliminate physical over-exertion
2. conserve energy
3. decrease psychological stress.

Ensuring that:
1. you use recommended assistive devices such as callipers, walking sticks, electric scooters etc.
2. all exercise is pain-free and non-fatiguing
3. you lose weight, if necessary.
