Genuine Tasmanian Hospitality, with your hosts Doug and
Karen. During the long summer evenings you can stroll along the banks of
the Mersey River. During winter you can visit the local theatre or relax in
the guest lounge beside a warm wood fire. Next morning enjoy a hearty hot
breakfast and relax as you view the ships sail past
Built for Sydney Griffith in 1877, a ship builder by trade. One of the
famous ships that come to mind is the brig "Waverly" which is featured
prominently on the 5 dollar note. Later this home was sold and became a
private Girls School, called West Devonport College. Then in approximately
1897 this home became a Guest House for a short period of time. In 1983
this house was restored to a Guest House again. The Lodge provides a warm
and comfortable environment and an ideal base from which to tour scenic
Northern Tasmania.
