Students are able to train either 1 or 2 nights a week but it is recommended that to progress steadily through the belt rankings it is preferable to train on both nights to develop fitness as well correct technique. There are no barriers (age, physique, fitness level) to any person that wishes to learn the art of Taekwon Do. You learn at your own pace and you are encouraged every step of the way. Students at Kurwongbah range in age from 7 to 50 - you are never too old to start something new which will benefit your health, concentration and confidence. |

Taekwon Do is the mental training and techniques of unarmed combat for self-defence
as well as health. It involves the skilled application of punches, kicks, blocks
and dodges with bare hands and feet for the rapid destruction of a moving opponent
or opponents.
On April 11, 1955 after exhaustive researching, developing and experimenting, General Choi Hong Hi proclaimed Taekwon Do to the world as a completely valid and unique martial art having a basic Korean origin. On March 22, 1966 General Choi founded the International Taekwon Do Federation in Seoul, Korea with the consent of 9 countries. This is the original Taekwon Do.
The Bai Rui School teaches the original Taekwon Do to each and every student regardless of their size, age, colour, gender or rank. The school has clubs Australia wide and has been established for nearly 20 years.. The United States Taekwon Do Federation (USTF) has formally accepted the Bai Rui School as a sister school (Recognition Plague No 51). Bai Rui is only the second school in the world to be granted this status.
Tae Kwon Do has 6 belt
colours: white, yellow, green, blue, red and black. Each colour signifies a
particular stage of the student's progression through the art.
| |
White signifies the innocence as that of a beginning student with no prior knowledge of Taekwon Do. |
| |
Yellow signifies the earth from which the plant takes root as as in the Taekwon Do foundation that is being laid. |
| |
Green signifies the plant's growth as the Taekwon Do skill begins to develop |
| |
Blue signifies the heaven toward which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Taekwon Do progresses. |
| |
Red signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning opponents to stay away. |
| |
Black is the opposite of white, therefore, signifying the student's maturity and proficiency in Taekwon Do. It also indicates the wearer's imperviousness to darkness and fear. |
A professional and organised approach to training. Instruction in class is given in many different ways for example:
Students are taught techniques
or patterns in a whole class situation or broken off to perfect certain
techniques within their rank groups. Senior students are willing to give
their time to help others. Both senior and junior students benefit as it
is a good way to consolidate what they have learnt and be able to clearly
pass on that information to another student.
Attack and defence techniques
that are used in patterns are put into practice when applying self defence.
Students are shown correct ways
to release from grabs, holds, locks and knife attacks. No matter how small
you are, using the proper technique whilst remaining calm enables you to
release from various grabs.
Sparring is practiced at training in a controlled and disciplined manner.
Excellent training facilities. Kurwongbah School Hall has wooden floor, plenty of room, changing facilities and excellent ventilation.
Instructors who train regularly with the Chief Instructor / Examiner (Mr Charles Birch) and are continually updating their skills and training methods
An atmosphere which fosters respect, courtesy and integrity
Extra seminars which all members are invited to attend to improve in particular areas eg. patterns, sparring, knife defence, self defence etc. Throughout the year, Bai Rui School offers all students many different seminars to enhance their technique. Bai Rui School boasts ten Sabums (4th Degree to 6th Degree Black Belt), eight 3rd Degree Black Belts and numerous 2nd and 1st Degree Black Belts. The black belts participate in the seminars and are always there to assist the junior student.
National tournaments with overseas participation. Bai Rui School regularly holds tournaments both in Brisbane and in smaller regional areas. Any student from any club is welcome and encouraged to participate from the Wee Pee Wees (5 years) to the Presidents Division (over 40). Two of our major tournaments (April and October) are held at the Suncorp Piazza at Southbank in Brisbane. Events that are held at the tournaments are not only sparring bouts but also include patterns, breaking, special techniques and special events. Everyone can participate at any level. Many parents and friends join in the excitement by assisting judges with time keeping or being ring monitors.
Summer Camp. Every year a weekend camp is held for all students. For the last 5 years it has been held in early December at Alexandra Headlands on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Students from around Australia come together for training as well as fun activities designed to heighten the awareness of the student and encourage interaction between clubs.
