'F' by Vee Malnar
World Premiere Bondi Pavilion, Jan 1998.
These three naturally shaped females are no Spice Girls act but you'll
be rivetted by their style, their songs and their story. The conflict
in the show draws attention to the paradox of feminism in the nineties
and how a girl band can possibly make it with material that is '70's
feminist crap'.
Their manageress wants them to wake up to the fact that only 'sex sex
sex and more sex sells', however the band 'The Minority Group', want
to carve their very own niche, by being themselves.
Along the way work committments, a baby, and a jealous mean spirited
husband become obstacles to their success. But nevertheless it is all
a learning curve for the women who take pride in their self penned songs
entitled, ' Readjust His Dick,' 'I Don't Need a Man', 'I'm a Natural
Beauty Queen' and 'You Left a Pubic Hair on the Toilet Seat.'
These are just some of the title tracks from the show and newly released
CD 'F' (by Ana Key & the Minority Group) available on the performance
nights.
A comparison with Spinal Tap is not unjustified but 'F' goes beyond
a movie with its 'non-hollywood warts and all' performances and music.
This is an original Australian work by Australian artists. An event
not to be missed!
