Herstory
The ideas behind 'F' stem from personal experience, observation of the Music Industry and the two all-girl bands that Vesna (Ana Key) performed in during the late eighties and nineties. The Strumettes and Madame Cash.
The Strumettes' (1989 - 1994) formed with Kathy Cox, went through a number of concept changes from which ideas grew and were later incorporated into the CD and Cabaret show of 'F'.
The Strumettes were a bunch of noisy girls, artists, teachers, uni-students, and part-time housewives who were determined to make glamourous music whilst still dutifully attending to their families in the kitchen, or writing their PHD.
In the early nineties the band bought their own PA and worked out where all those 'damn wires go', then toured the South Coast and Sydney and in between played at the Rainbow Cafe in Nimbin. They produced a tape of songs recorded at Bushtraks in Nimbin (and later at Mainsteet Studios - Corrimal)...which featured songs penned by Kathy Cox and Vesna. Some of the songs included on the tape were Sudden Rain, Turn Green, Street Kids and I Don't Need a Man. The songs received airplay on ABC radio and the band played for a period of five years with a variety of players who joined for live performance and recording.
