A HUGE Australian Open Short Course Championships for Club Captain Brian Christensen. Brian swam an awesome 28.81 in the semi-finals of the 50m breast to finish 10th (8th Australian) overall. This followed a career-best (by 3 seconds!) 2:18.35 in the 200m breast to finish 12th (9th Australian). In the 100m Brian swam a years-best 1:04.35 (with an awesome 29.65 split) to finish 23rd in a very tight race. Way to go Brian - the Club is very proud of you and your achievements!! |
Our NSW Winter State Open team does us proud! Club Captains Brian Christensen, who medalled in the 50m breast and finalled in the 100m and 200m in his best times in two seasons, and Rachael Miles, who scored two top-20 placings and four PBs led the charge. Jono Rousseau also finished an excellent 13th in the 13 & Under 400m free. |
Congratulations to NSW Winter Country medallists Josh Berry (Silver in 100m breast), Ben Grady (Gold in 200m IM and bronze in 100m free), Jono Rousseau (Gold in 100m free and 100m fly) and Lainee Sutton (Bronze in 100m free) and to the whole team for finishing third ACT Club overall. A real achievement with a team of only fourteen swimmers. |
Did you catch new media star Rachael Miles on the radio? Rachael was a MiX 106 Junior Sportstar in July!! |
Congratulations to the twenty Brindabella swimmers who were selected in this year's ACT Squads. Many of our stars achieved this for the first time this year, as a direct results of their efforts in recent months. Club Captain Rachael Miles makes the Challenge Squad for the first time - can she make it to the Elite next year?? It's wonderful to see Brindabella's family tradition continue with no fewer than four sets of siblings selected - the Cossettos, Gradys, Stueckradts and Thompsons make it a family affair.
- Gathercole Squad - Natasha Cossetto, Stephanie Cossetto, Ryan Grady, Thomas Hamers-Smith, Ben Nolan, Ben Saywell, Kayley Stueckradt, Michael Thompson and Stewart Thompson

Bruna made Country!!!! On top of her wonderful support at the Development Camp, our very own international superstar Bruna Jacobs also made her first Country time with a superb 1:14 in the 100m back. See you in Newcastle, Bruna!! |
The Development Camp was a Darryl Eastlake-esque HUGE success - very largely due to the enormous efforts of Jenny Stueckradt. Special thanks too to Rob Lewis who lent us is awesome camp cooking skills for the weekend. |
The 2001 AGM awarded our first ever Life Membership to one of Brindabella's founding fathers, John Walker. John has been active in ACT Swimming for many years and has provided unwavering support to the club in recent years, even after his own children hung up their swimmers. A richly deserved accolade and a special moment in SCBSC's history. Congratulations John. |
Congratulations to our second Australian Record Holder Katrina Lewis who broke three (count them!) Australian Records at the recent NSW Council for the Disabled Meet in Sydney. These records were for the 50m free (35.22), 100m free (1:17.02) and 200m free (2:49.56) in the 13 years & under age group for S8 swimmers, and had all previously stood for six years. |
Lainee Sutton is crowned 11 years 200m IM Champion at the Australian Primary School Championships, held from 13th to 16th May at the AIS. Lainee, the ACT's only gold medallist at this Meet, is ably supported by eight other Brindabella swimmers - David Bennett, Josh Berry, Stephanie Cossetto, Teagan Hore, Jess O'Brien, Melanie Quiggin, Josh Rousseau and James Thorp. |
Congratulations to Brindabella's place-getters at the ACT Secondary Schools Championships - Ben Grady, Rachael Miles, Jonathon Rousseau, Max Sansoni and Tim Wynants. Despite being in the top ten nationally, Rachael can't get a swim in the 100m breast, so compensates by winning the 50m by three-quarters of a second, in an Open Nationals qualifying time! Onya Rachael! |
As a result of her stunning swim in the 200m breast at Nationals, Rachael Miles has made this year's Australian Swimming Age Top Ten rankings in this event. Rachael is one of only twelve swimmers in the ACT to reach this level in the last long course season. With Brian and Rachael, Coach Terry now has two of the highest ranked breaststrokers in the ACT, and plenty more where they came from (not mentioning any names Melanie, Josh and Tim...!!). |
Another great Brindabella performance at the Burley Griffin Development Meet. Our 32-strong team notches up a 54% PB rate. Congratulations to six-medal heroes Teagan Hore and Melissa Stueckradt, and also to James Thorp who climbed the podium five times. |
A red letter day for the Club on the first day of competition at the Age Nationals in Melbourne - our own Rachael Miles lifts her ranking in the 200m breast from 16th to 4th in the heats, and is then narrowly pipped into 5th in the final. Her time, a 2:43.75 (a 6-second PB!!), makes Rachael the fastest current female 200m breaststroker (of any age) in the ACT. In the 100m on day two, Rachael is narrowly beaten into 11th (only 0.1 of a second from 7th) in 1:18.30, only 0.01 sec outside her bronze-medal performance at NSW Country. A very late (Coach was already half-way down the Hume!) withdrawal sees her in the final, where she finished ninth. A wonderful performance from both swimmer and coach (Terry had to fend off the jibes from many a peer that a legendary flyer should have a top breastroker as his first Age Nationals finallist!). |
What a weekend at our own Autumn Carnival. From the unique (thanks everyone!) Meet Manager T-shirt to Bruna's first medal in Australia, the whole weekend was a raging success. Our team of seventy-six swimmers (with another ten entered and unable to compete) scored seventy-six medals and a PB rate of 79%. Take a bow Ben Grady (9 medals), Melanie Quiggin and Lainee Sutton (8 each) and Jono Rousseau (7). |
