Meliki
has forged an original sound that blends the familiarity of all
that has come before with a fresh, contemporary perspective. Her
training as a jazz and classical multi-instrumentalist, varied
live experience backing other artists, playing in music theatre, and performing her own material
has led her to combine rhythms collected from around the globe
with popular music making for a new musical blend of folk-pop
with rootsy world influences.
The
backbone to her songs is the Pana, meaning the beat or rhythm,
gathered from traditional sources and embedded in her fingerstyle
performances on guitar and further enhanced by percussion beats
played on guitar when solo or with drums in a band. The goal is
simply to feel it...
Meliki’s
songs explore people’s perceptions, finding individual strength
and purpose, and the feeling of carefree abandon. Born from a
love of fantasy fiction and storywriting, the synergy of her long
appreciation of literature and joy of playing music come together
in live shows and through her recordings.
In
2010 she released an amibient instrumental CD featuring her classical guitar playing titled 'The Elements' which saw her shortlisted for an APRA PDA award.
In 2011 Meliki continues her function performances, back other original artists and music directing and playing in music theatre, including writing an original musical,
while planning future
overseas tours to develop her craft in music theatre and promote her 2008 CD release 'Movin On', which was also shortlisted for an APRA PDA award two years earlier, and 2010 digital single release titled 'Broken'.
