Meliki
is Ashley Meliki Shoup, an active 23 year old musician with broad
tastes and interests in music. A multi-instrumentalist who began
on piano at 3 years old, she later added guitar and bass while
still in primary school and messed a bit with trumpet, clarinet,
percussion, violin and voice.
Meliki
studied classical guitar, jazz piano and bass guitar at the Victorian
College of the Arts. After the VCA she went on to study Music
Industry Business at Victoria University transferring to NMIT
mid 2007 to obtain concurrent qualifications in Music Business
and Music Performance (keyboard).
She
has played in music theatre orchestras, worked as a session musician
recording on original artists albums, accompanying singers and
composing music for multimedia and film projects.
From
14 years old she won awards at the Frankston International Guitar
Festival 3 years in a row. She has received further awards for
her performance and composition skills. She often goes out busking
with her guitar around Melbourne.
Meliki
regularly performs her original instrumentals and as a solo vocals/acoustic
guitar performer. She has also performing her original songs
around town as a band called Meliki Pana in 2007 in acoustic duo
or power trio format.
She
has collaborated in a number of duos and bands writing and playing
originals and also performing covers. Performing at festivals
and pubs around the Bay and rural Victoria either as her original
act, in coverbands or backing other original artists, she has
played premier Melbourne venues like Federation Square, Palladium
@ Crown , Rialto and the Arts Centre as well as the regular circuit
of bars, hotels and clubs that make up Melbourne's live music
scene.
In
2008 she embarked on interstate touring to promote her original
CD release with 10 shows covering Canberra, Sydney, Tamworth,
Albury, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Bangalow (Byron Bay area),
Eumundi and Mooloolaba (Noosa area). She also played shows covering
Tasmania and regional Victoria.
2009
introduced overseas touring with shows in Hawaii, USA and New
Zealand while creating original music scores for SYN radio and
TV shows, animators, commericals and short film productions. In 2010 she is producing a guitar instrumental
CD titled The Elements, toured California USA in November and began writing a musical.
She
is an experienced performer at corporate and wedding functions,
public events and festivals, clubs and pubs having played in front
of small intimate groups and crowds over 1000 people.
