Meliki
started playing Suzuki piano in pre-school. Played for a few months
then re-commenced traditional/classical piano at seven. Also started
on a school violin program. At the end of the program Meliki switched
to guitar. She has continued piano and guitar ever since.
She
began to play jazz piano when she was ten under MD, Gil Askey
(Motown arranger - Stevie Wonder/Jackson 5/Tempations/ Supremes,
MD for Diana Ross, Academy Award nominee for 'Lady Sings the Blues'
film score) performing with members now making up popular bands
like The Cat Empire. At times she switched to bass depending on
the needs of the band.
In
addition, she learned trumpet and clarinet in a school program
and explored percussion/drum kit and voice with some lessons.
She
entered the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) Secondary School
(VCASS) in Year 8 where she studied Classical Guitar under Antony
Field (Head of VCA Guitar and member of the Australian Guitar
Quartet - Saffire ARIA 2003). She studied Jazz/Improvisation Piano
with Tim Stevens and Andrea Keller (ARIA winner 2001/2003). She
also studied Bass Guitar under Chris Hale. During this time she performed under a number of eminent music directors in stage, show, jazz, latin and big bands.
After
studying a Bachelor of Business - Music Industry at Victoria University
for 18 months, Meliki transferred to NMIT to complete qualifications
concurrently in Music Business and Music Performance (keyboards)
with tuition from improvization pianists Tony Gould, Steve Sedergreen
and Sam Keevers. Continuing with an Adv. Dip. Music Business in
2008 she undertook an internship at AMPHead, the Australasia agent
for The Orchard (a digital distribution provider) as well as staffing
major concerts and festivals including the Port Nepean Music Festival
and Pushover covering activities such as artist liason, signings
and merchandising. During this period she participated in a number
of artist workshops with Austrade and MMF relating to artist development,
music licensing and touring putting these into practice as a performer.
In
2009 she turned her attention to studying electronic music composition
on syntheziers integrating workstation tools such as Reason 4,
Pro Tools/Cubase and Sibelious to aid in producing her next CD
and further develop soundtrack composition skills. She volunteered
at SYN Radio and TV to train in various production, presenting
and operational skills while continuing as a live performer with
her solo acoustic shows and in bands. She completed a Certificate
IV in Training and Assessment - vocational music teaching qualification
at Monash University and holds a current Working With Children's certificate.
For
2010 Meliki took a conducting/band directors course over the summer
along with a first aid certificate course travelling to Pennsylvania to Camp Lohikan summer camp to run rock band clinics and instruct vocals, keys, guitar and songwriting from June to August. She also entered a Bachelor of
Arts - Music Industry at RMIT at 4th semester level. She further
took on rehearsal pianist duties various music theatre productions, advancing to Assistant Music Director for some productions. She will play in their orchestras for the shows either on piano,
guitar or bass. Upon returning from the summer camp she took on a film directors course and toured California solo in November.
In 2011 Meliki has took further training in professioal music theatre production with an internship with Newtheatricals for their Rock of Ages Australia premier. In addition she performed in the orchestra for the world premier of Grease 2:Live in Concert and fully orchestrated a revue for Dandenong Theatre Company. |
