Hello Everyone,
Another successful Flower Show is now behind us, thank you to all
involved, Kevin has reported in detail further on in this newsletter. 1 thought
that September was a busy month but October is shaping up to be just as busy.
There is a lot planned including a great, one/ two day wild flower feast in the
Hamilton area. Michael and 1 missed the last meeting we were away on our annual
family weekend get together near Dunkeld. The flowers were out splendidly, in
the Mt Sturgeon area and the little Sundews were in full flower and looked
lovely climbing through the bush. 1 would like to pass on our condolences to
Cherree, lan and their family on the passing of Cherree's Mother and to offer
our support at this sad time.
Bye for now Dorothy.
NEXT MEETING OCTOBER 15th at 8pm.
BUSH TUCKER NIGHT.
This will be a very interesting night. Cherree, Coral, Gwen and Ken have put a
lot of thought into this night so bring along your appetite to what 1 'm sure
will be, a night to remember. Please bring a plate to share of something you
have made that contains a bush tucker ingredient. Some of the recipes already
offered are - Kangaroo tail meatballs, Warrigal Green Quiche, Macadamia Nut
Cream Tart and Steamed Quandong Pudding. The Warrnambool library has books on
bush tucker, or pop into the supermarket and have a look in the bush food
section. If you get stuck for ideas give Cherree a ring on (55687226) There will
be equipment to heat food in on the night, also bring your own eating utensils
and plates. At this stage we are hoping to have Leigh Fary come along and
enlighten us on the bush tucker, Leigh is from the Wornguidj group.
Wattle Grow Granular Inoculant.
We received a brochure from BIO-CARE Technology. This explains the
benefits of using their product. The CSIRO Plant Industry has found a way to
improve establishment rates and performance of newly planted wattles by using a
soil bacterium called Bradyrhizobium. The brochure will be in our group's
library if anyone would like more information .
ORCHID AND WILD FLOWER/ BIRD WEEKEND OPPORTUNITY
In addition to the day trip planned to visit Pauline McCarthy's property
there is the opportunity to make this weekend extra special. For those of you
that would like to make a weekend of it you can join Andrew Pritchard and
Richard Hill on the Saturday. SATURDAY the 16th October- Andrew and Richard will
be at the Casterton Post Office at 10am. This will be a great chance to find
Orchids etc with the experts and to be shown areas that you may not have known
about. Richard is a very knowledgeable bird-o. For more information ring Andrew
on (55659466) SUNDAY the 1 7th October -Pauline McCarthy has a Red Gum/
Grassland Covenanted Property near Hamilton. She is an acquaintance of Cherree's
and has invited us to visit her property. We will meet at the Hamilton Gardens
at the lower end on the corner of French street (near the CMA office) at 10.30
am You will need good foot wear and if you have leggings bring them too. Bring
your lunch, drinking water and thermos etc. BBQ available. Last year this
property was a carpet of orchids and flowers. We are planning to leave Pauline's
about 3pm and travel to another property, at Digby. Elizabeth Hatfield is a
friend of Kevin's, her property is 54 hectares in size, she has put a covenant
on the title to protect it, it was in the way of the bluegum plantations and she
saved it from being cleared for this. It has a high conservation status and the
Property has lots of birds and orchids among other things, and is habitat for
Red tailed Black Cockatoos to nest. To assist with her covenant she is looking
for more plants and birds to be identified and would appreciate our assistance
in this.
