RULES AND CONDITIONS FOR STRING SECTIONS

1. All sections are open to amateurs only. An amateur is a competitor who may earn an income from professional musical performances, using the same type of instrument as will be used in the competition. However, this and other income from musical performances must not be the major part of the competitor’s total earnings.
This rule does not apply to accompanists.

2. A competitor’s age will be taken as that at the closing date of the Eisteddfod entries. for 2010, 3rd May.

3. There must be a minimum of three (3) competitors in each section. If this does not occur, each competitor will receive an adjudication report only, and no perpetual trophies will be awarded.

4. The Adjudicator’s decision is final.

5. If the competitor chooses not to play from memory, a commercial printed sheet music copy or an authorised photocopy must be used in the performance.

6. Each competitor in “own-choice” sections must provide a copy of his/her selection for the Adjudicator. If this is a photocopy (either authorised or unauthorised), or has been taken from the Internet, it will not be returned.

7. Once the Official Programme has been printed, competitors cannot change sections.

8. Competitors and their parents / supporters may not approach the Adjudicator’s table, nor speak to the Adjudicator. If this rule is ignored, the competitor will be disqualified immediately.

9. Cheques and money orders should be made payable to St. George Eisteddfod Inc.
Stamps will not be accepted as payment .
Cash must not be sent through the mail: this practice is illegal.

10. Where a time limit is set for a performance, the competitor should not exceed it. Should this happen, the Adjudicator has the right to ring the bell, and thereby terminate the performance.

11. Competitors in Championship sections must compete in at least thre sections, one of which is the
Championship itself.

12. Championship winners are not permitted to enter the same Championship for the next two (2) years.

13. Persons who have been taught or advised by the Adjudicator in the six (6) months prior to the opening day of
the Eisteddfod are ineligible
14. Competitors may not appear in sections other than those nominated on their original entry form, which is held
by the Convener.

15. The entry form must have the name, address and telephone number of the competitor’s teacher.

16. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry.

17. Each competitor who enters more than one Section must present a different piece in each, except for finals of Championships.

18. The use of Video recorders, standard cameras or mobile phone cameras in the performance area is forbidden under the Copyright Act of Australia and the Child Protection Act of NSW, and hence such use is illegal.

19. St. George Eisteddfod Inc. accepts no responsibility for unauthorised copying of material by entrants in “own-choice” sections.
Commercial printed sheet music provided for the Adjudicator’s use will be returned. All other music will be retained and destroyed.

20. Competitors who require the services of the Official Accompanist must contact the Accompanist one month prior to the commencement of the Eisteddfod. Furthermore, the Official Accompanist’s fee is the responsibility of the competitor for any rehearsals prior to the Eisteddfod. On the day(s) of the Eisteddfod, the Official Accompanist’s fee will be paid by St. George Eisteddfod Inc.
St. George Eisteddfod Inc. accepts no responsibility for the use of unauthorised copies of the music by the Accompanist at the Eisteddfod.

21. Competitors wishing to have their own accompanists should apply for free admission for these people. Applications in writing should be received by the Eisteddfod Committee one month prior to the commencement of the Eisteddfod. failure to do so will result in a full admission charge for the accompanist.

22. Fees due to these accompanists, for rehearsals and on the day(s) of the Eisteddfod, are the sole responsibility of the contestant.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: CHAMPIONSHIPS SECTIONS 250 – 252 WILL BE ADJUDICATED ON SUNDAY EVENING THE 8th OF AUGUST 2010. FOUR FINALISTS WILL BE CHOSEN FROM THE CHAMPIONSHIP HEATS. PIECES PLAYED IN HEATS MAY BE REPEATED IF SO DESIRED.

Competitors who require the services of the Official Accompanist must contact the Accompanist one month prior to the commencement of the Eisteddfod.
Furthermore, the Official Accompanist’s fee is the responsibility of the competitor for any rehearsals prior to the Eisteddfod. On the day(s) of the Eisteddfod, the Official Accompanist’s fee will be paid by St. George Eisteddfod Inc.

Entry cost per section is. $ 10.00 per entry.
Entry cost per Championship is. $18.00 per entry.

ALL SECTIONS ARE OWN CHOICE AND ARE FOR BOWED STRINGED INSTRUMENTS ONLY

CHAMPIONSHIPS.

A minimum of six competitors must enter for each of these sections to be held.

Items performed during the Eisteddfod may not be repeated in the CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT or FINAL.

SECTION 250: JUNIOR 12 years and under. (HEATS).
Przes: 1st - $80, 2nd - $40, 3rd - $20.
Time limit: up to 7 minutes
Entry Fee: $18.
Competitors must compete in two other sections.
One own choice piece excluding CONCERTO’S

SECTION 251: INTERMEDIATE 13 – 15 years. (HEATS).
Przes: 1st - $100, 2nd - $80, 3rd - $50.
Time limit: up to 10 minutes
Entry Fee: $18.
Competitors must compete in two other sections.
One own choice piece excluding CONCERTO’S


SECTION 252: SENIOR OPEN. HEATS
Przes: 1st - $700, 2nd - $350, 3rd - $150.
Time limit: up to 15 minutes
Entry Fee: $18.
Competitors must compete in two other sections.
One own choice movement of any CONCERTO from 18th, 19th 20th, 21st Century Composers.


RESTRICTED SECTION applies to competitors who have never won a FIRST or Second prize in that particular section in the St. George Eisteddfod Inc.
