ADJUDICATOR: Mrs Pamela Herring

A Mus.A. LMusA. Dip.Spec.Mus.(Sydney) Dip. Mus. AICM (HC) FFCCSME. MMTA
Mrs Herring trained in Newcastle with Doris E. Velvin-Smith(piano) and Leah Morris (singing). She continued her musical education at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music and later at Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she studied piano with Laurence Godfrey-Smith and singing with Ruth Ladd.
Mrs Herring has considerable experience as Director of Musicals and plays and has herself won many awards for Directing and acting. She was a senior examiner for Higher School Certificate Board of Studies Music courses for many years.
A past Chairperson for the Australian Society for Music Education NSW Chapter, she is currently adjudicating at Eisteddfods in NSW and Interstate, most recently at Lake Macquarie Vocal Eisteddfod and Music Teachers Association of Australia Junior Music Festivals.
Mrs Herring has been one of the judging panel for the 2MBS FM Young Performers Award. She is an examiner for the International Music Examinations Board in Music, Speech and Drama. She has successful students pursuing careers in Music Theatre and Music Education in Australia and overseas.

1. Entry fee will be refunded only at the discretion of the Committee.
2. Competitors to provide a copy of music score for the Adjudicator. Photocopies will not be returned.
3. Prompting of any kind will not be given, except by the Adjudicator.
4. Unauthorised photography is not permitted. Persons requiring to photograph or video a performance, MUST speak and obtain permission from the Convenor on the day.
5. The Adjudicator’s decision is final.
6. Speaking to the Adjudicator is not permitted during the Eisteddfod.
7. Competitors who have been taught or coached by the Adjudicator within 6 months of the Eisteddfod are not eligible to compete.
8. Credit will be given for the quality of selection. Choice should be appropriate to age and must not be construed as OFFENSIVE or DISCRIMINATORY.
9. The Committee reserves the right to appoint a substitute or additional Adjudicator if required.

All Competitors are responsible for providing own Accompanist. Any Competitor requiring an Accompanist can contact Music Convenor Ann Chapman on 9553 0142 for advice.
Please note: Recorded accompaniment is only permitted in Popular, Open Vocal or Popular style pieces. Competitors who are performing with recorded accompaniment MUST bring and OPERATE their own equipment.
Licenced backing tapes with NO vocal backing are acceptable.
Microphones are optional and will be provided.

ADJUDICATOR: Dr. Tim Smith
Dr Tim Smith ,a graduate of London University in Expressive Arts was involved in many theatrical and musical activities in England, including adjudicating at festivals before migrating to Australia to take up a teaching post.
He is currently a lecturer, examiner, adjudicator and consultant in Music, Drama and Theatre Performance Arts.
Tim holds Speech and Drama qualifications from the Oxford English Speaking Board, a Graduate Diploma in Expressive Arts from Sydney University, a PhD and Med in Music Education and qualifications from both Geneva and Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he both studied and lectured for many years. He has lectured at University of Western Sydney, Australian Catholic University and Sydney University Faculty of Education since 1975. He has undertaken a world-wide tour of music institutions as a guest lecturer in his various specialised area of
music education.
A senior examiner, founding member, co-designer and Course consultant of the International Music Examinations Board, Tim has also been a Senior Lecturer at the Australian International Conservatorium of Music and has served as member of Boards at AICM.
He regards it as an honour to be invited to adjudicate and realises the great responsibility attached to it. His judging process includes: impression, analysis, constructive criticism, appreciation and praise, summary, evaluation and rating .He believes he should be the kind of judge or examiner he would want to evaluate his or his students’ work.

ART SONG or BALLAD
An Art song is a song of serious artistic intent, written by a musically trained composer. Written and sung in the English language of the 20th or 21st Century.

V30. ST. GEORGE OPERATIC ARIA entry fee $20.00
Extra conditions for Operatic Aria.
1. Open to amateur competitors only.
2. One Aria to be sung of own choice ,must be from standard operatic repertoire. Competitors must enter and appear in two other sections in the Classical Vocal Section.
3. Arias must be sung in original key and language.
4. A minimum of 8 competitors must enter for this section to be held.
5. Time limit 12 min.
