Note: After this Index had been on-line for some time a local resident e-mailed me on 25 December 2000 - "I was looking at your posting on Margaret Turners site of entries from the Griffith's Valuation CD about names in the Ballyduff/Mocollop area. Unfortunately this disc contains a large number of errors in particular for the Ballyduff area. Garrison, Gairha and Carrigane you have posted as part of the Town of Cappoquin. They are not within 10 miles of Cappoquin. Carrigane is in Mocollop it is the townland to the west of the townland of Mocollop. Garrison is the townland immediately to the east of Ballyduff townland and is in fact part of Ballyduff village area. Gairha is immediately to the east of Garrison. Perhaps you would like to correct you entry."
I am fairly certain I took the names directly from the microfilm of Griffith's Valuation and would therefore have copied what the sheets reported as being within the "Parish of Lismore and Mocollop". The explanation might be that for administrative purposes these other areas were incorporated in the Mocollop returns. I have read elsewhere that the Griffith's Valuation CD, which I have never sighted, can be unreliable.
