THE CANBERRA HOSPITAL - RADIATION ONCOLOGY - TREATMENT PREPARATION

There are two Linac radiation machines at The Canberra Hospital - Linac 1 and Linac 2. (Linac is short for linear accelerator.) Their use is determined by available staff numbers and maintenance programs. You will be allocated to one or the other and handed a treatment booklet which should be presented at the relevant reception window past the waiting room.

When your treatment session is due a nurse will call you in the waiting room by your first name. If your treatment method requires you to take off your street clothes you can do this in a change-room cubicle and put on your personal terry-toweling dressing gown which is allocated to you at the commencement of treatment.

You will be allocated a shelf to store the terry-towelling dressing gown during the period of your treatment.

There is a call bell in the change-room area to summon assistance from the nurses, if required.
