THE ANCHOR ROAD COUPS - UNDER IMMEDIATE THREAT

View from the Tasman Highway near the junction with Anchor Road.

Under immediate threat!

A few kilometers up Anchor Road from the Tasman Highway a bridge across the Groom River is reached.  If you look carefully you will see a small broken sign saying 'Anchor Stampers'.  A very pretty fern laden track leads to more old relics of the mining area.  Only 5 or 10 minutes one way.  Well worth a look.  Be aware, the road is very rough in one part.  The road continues on and is also an alternative way to Piomena but is really only suitable for 4WD vehicles.  A pretty Myrtle forest drive.  To be clear felled from the Spring of 2003.

The view upstream from the bridge crossing the Groom River.

The area on the left is earmarked for clear felling from the Spring of 2003.

All of the area on the opposite side of the river (the opposite direction from the view in this image) is destined for clear felling from September 2003 also.
