The village of Poatina was built to house the work force and their families during the building of the near by Poatina Power Station.  The golf course was constructed at the same time.  The town was recently acquired by the Fusion church group and operates the town as a resort..  The club still survives with a small group of dedicated members.  Despite the small membership, the course has maintained it's high quality making it very appealing for the amateur and professional golfer.  As a testament to this the Club hosts the longest running Pro Am in Tasmania here every January.
