HOT FINANCIAL TIP OF THE MONTH:- April/May 2001

    Is the "Tech Wreck" finished?

This is the question on the lips of many an analyst at present. So if the experts are not real sure how is the average Joe in the street supposed to know.

Firstly, any investment in new technology is always by nature very speculative. This being the case you must look at any investment made in specs in a different light to standard investment vehicles. The first rule is to "squirrel" away your profits and second is don't be blinded by the light. If you realise a profit it is yours to keep. After the tax man takes his little bit of course.

So how to go about speculative investment in times of high volatility. Why not use a Manager. There are plenty around at present. Most are showing significant minus returns, but that is just a sign of the times. If you feel as I do that some movement will eventually take place, a Managed Fund may be just the answer. Let the experts do the thinking.

Some very high profile Instutional investors now have products that may suit your needs. AMP, Colonial First State & ING (ex Mercantile Mutual), just to mention a few. As usual though, seek advice on just which fund best suits your needs.

Remember, don't follow the herd. While all are selling you should be buying and while all are buying you should be selling. Tough to do but a good philosophy.
