BUSHWALKING
AN INTRODUCTION

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

DURATION : 3 THEORY SESSIONS INCLUDING GEAR CHECKS, PLUS A FULL DAY WALK PLUS A 2 DAY WALK WITH A OVERNIGHT CAMP-OUT.

This course will provide any reasonably fit and active person with an insight into both the good and bad potentials to be found in the Tasmanian bush.

Please note that the walks on this course are not guided bushwalks as such, but a serious attempt to efficiently introduce you to the realities of being in the bush as a self-reliant and responsible bushwalker.  The course is considered by many past participants to be far more than an introduction, it will introduce you to not only a variety of the walking environments that can be easily accessed here in Tasmania but also how you might feel about them and respond within them as you learn to manage the various demands likely to be encountered.

A variety of terrain is traversed during the field days in the vicinity of the Great Western Tiers and Western Central Plateau with the walking taking place both on, and away from the tracks, including on boulders and rock scree, in and across creeks, through dense bush, and a peak ascent.  it is usual to spend some time walking after dark, and although pack weight can usually be shared, all participants must be willing to have a go at carrying their own gear.

Specific itineraries for both of the walks are subject to weather and participants considerations on the day(s) of the walk.
