BUSHWALKING
LEADERSHIP AWARENESS
COURSE DESCRIPTION :
DURATION : 3
HOURS, ONE THEORY SESSION ONLY.
This course provides the casual or potential walks
leader with an insight into various leadership issues.
In order to get the best out of this course it
is recommended that participants have at least an awareness of, if not
direct experience of, just what can go wrong under poor leadership and
be reasonably familiar with the principles of emergency management as discussed
in TASWALKS BUSHWALKING EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COURSE.
COURSE CONTENT OUTLINE :

What do you hope to gain from participating in this session ?

Describe a "worst case scenario" for a walk being led by you.

Describe the "worst" thing that has actully happened to you or a member
of your party on a walk.

Determine and discuss the issues raised in the above.

Discuss definitions of "reasonable", "foreseeable", "negligence" and "risk"
as they may be applied with respect to the "duty of care" owed to party
members and the environment.

Discuss when and how the various aspects of leadership might be incorporated
into a walk.

Discuss the design and execution of an "appropriate" walk.
-
Design a walk based on the information now presented to you.

Discuss possible options or modifications to the proposed walk.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED :
In addition to a pen, paper to take notes, could
you put some thought into answering dot point 2 above, namely, "what
would a worst case scenario for a walk being led by yourself be ?"
